I ALSO PLAY ON OTHER PEOPLE'S ALBUMS

Your browser does not support the video tag.

My mostly-complete credits on AllMusic (see scrolly gizmo to the left) list at least twenty different instruments I've played on records since 1993  - mostly because I'll try anything to help create the right vibe for a song. That's how I end up playing things like jawharp and singing bowls for people.

Sometimes I'm adding subtle colors with accordion or percussion, sometimes I'm grounding things on bass, sometimes I'm playing the melody on piano. And every now and then I'm playing almost everything on a song by someone else!

I particularly love creating textural worlds around other instruments when it's appropriate.

Drop me a note if I can help expand the world of your music!

MASAKO: dreaming northern

I play several parts on this album, but two tracks in particular stand out:

"One by One"

This song started with my parts. Masako sent me a chart for the chord structure and melody, and I started on the real Rhodes with chords, then the Rhodes MK80 with the melody bell line and a soft pulse, then added bass, texture beds, two synth leads (one brassy, one slinky), a percussion track that slowly gets more dramatic, and a high string synth line. We added Masako's accents on piano and Jeff Oster on flugelhorn to create the complete song.

"Agiochook"

Masako gave me a chord progression and I made this track on keys, backwards Rhodes, obsidian chimes, and electric guitars. I had an airy synth lead going on that suggested Premik's EWI (electronic wind instrument, sounds flute-y here) so he added a high airy part, and then we added the ethereal vocals of Noah Wilding. Masako doesn't actually play on this one!
